When did it happen?
That's a question I find myself asking regularly these days. When did it happen? When did our education system stop teaching basic civics? When did they stop explaining how our government was set up and how it was supposed to function?
I ask this because I can still remember back in eighth grade "Social Studies" when we were taught how our government was a Constitutional Republic. A Union of individual States organized under a Federal Government who had a very clearly enumerated set of powers. And that the powers not specifically given to the Federal Government were the purview of the States and the People. I remember having to read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and being quizzed on who was responsible for what. This wasn't very long ago. I'm only 38 so this was back in the mid-eighties.
Granted, I went to a Catholic School and we didn't have to follow the public school curriculum, but could it have been that different? I know for a fact that our teachers were paid less than their public school counterparts and didn't receive the same benefits, either.
So when did it happen? When did we as a society forget that the Federal Government isn't supposed to be setting up institutions to compete with the private sector? More importantly, when did it become unpatriotic to question these kinds of actions? Are we not supposed to adhere to the founding principles outlined in the Constitution? Isn't that founding document supposed to be a contract between the People, the States, and the Federal Government?
In my travels on the net, I've been told that I need to "get with the program". That things have changed. I'm sorry, but we have a CONTRACT. One party doesn't get to change the terms because it is inconvenient for them. We have a process for amending the contract and I've checked, we haven't added a new clause allowing the Federal Government to set up a Health Insurance company. One with an unfair advantage in the market, to boot. They can provide the worst service in the world and will stay in business no matter what. Proponents of this scenario will argue that people can easily opt out of such coverage. Who do they think they're fooling? Do they really believe what they're saying?
They'll point to Medicare / Medicaid as proof that the government is allowed to do these things. And they'll say that since there's precedent it is now somehow Constitutional. I wonder how the Civil Rights movement would have turned out if they just followed "precedent". Hell, they had to get an AMENDMENT passed to change the precedent. Somewhere along the lines someone flipped the process around and Medicare / Medicaid was implemented without an amendment. Suddenly, someone added "Health Insurance" to Article 1 Section 8 (although I don't see it listed anywhere). And now we're just supposed to either assume it's okay for the Federal Government to do this or just ignore it and "get with the program".
NO. I will not get with the program. THEY need to get with the program. There are limits to the scope and reach of the Federal Government and those limits have been exceeded and there are plans to exceed them even more. Why are we just letting this happen in this great country? Is there no one in Washington who is going to stand up for our founding principles? Are we no longer a people who will speak out against this soft tyranny? When did we become a nation of drones who don't have a clue as to how this government is supposed to act?

Links of London Jewellery
Is there anyone who hasn't Links of London Jewellery suffered for the secret love? We alwaysthink that love is very heavy, heavy Links of London sale and could be Links of London Store the heaviest thing inthe world. But one day, when you look back, you suddenly realize thatit's always light, light. We all thought love was very deep, but infact it's very thin. The deepest and heaviest love must grow up withthe time.
Five Finger Shoes
The marketed primary use for the Five Finger Shoes Trek is for off-road trail running. The tougher sole will suit many other uses where a thicker more protective sole is preferred. The fit is extremely snug. The forefoot is well protected against sharp objects while still providing decent ground-feel. It is very likely that many that use FiveFingers products for sports of any kind may find the extra protection preferable to the regular thin-soled Five Fingers Shoes. Due to the new sole design and the more water resistant leather upper, the Treks are better suited for wet weather conditions than any other FiveFingers model. Although many of the FiveFingers products are used as “water shoes” the Treks design may not be as well-suited for in-water use.
