A Simple Hiking Trip - In a War Zone?

As most of you know by now, Iran is holding three American "hikers" in Iran for illegally crossing into their country.

Shane Bauer, 27, Sarah Shourd, 31, and Jeff Fattal, 28 were arrested July 31, 2009 after their simple "hiking trip" turned into a charge of espionage as they crossed from war torn Iraq to the religious dictatorship of Iran.

The families of these people have said that if they had crossed over into Iran, it was by accident. They're quite indignant that their children haven't been released and the public isn't in a frenzy of fury over their detention.

"We have to focus and assimilate this, but it's shocking," Nora Shourd, Sarah's mother, said in an interview Thursday on CNN. "It's shocking it hasn't come out in the public, that it happened to these kids, and that this is the reason they're being held."

Let me explain why people aren't up in arms about this.

First, no one buys the story that these adults, they aren't kids, were on a "simple hiking" trip to two third world countries, especially one at war.

Secondly, Shane Bauer is a contributor to a left wing rag called The Nation. And let's not even talk about his work for al-Jazeera. There is no way anyone who reads this garbage believes for a moment these people were on a pleasure trip, especially Iran. Talk about activism coming back to bite you. Let's just take a look at your blog. Shane Bauer doesn't even live in the U.S. He lives in Syria.

Sarah Shourd is an Anti-Israeli nut. Let's look at her work. Still think it's a coincidence that she was in this area and just happened to be hiking in Iran? And who again is Israel's most deadly enemy? Riiiiight.

Joshua Fattal, a rabid environmentalist, whose father is an Iraqi, and just before he left for this little vacay, he said, "Iraq is calling to me."

And finally, all three are graduates of the University of Southern California Berkeley. "Nuff said.

So tell me lefties, how's that garbage you ate up at Berkeley from your liberal "Everyone will love you if you embrace them" professors working for you now? Maybe your parents should have taught you that you're hated not for your right wing country, but for the simple fact that you're an American. The world is a tough place, and your parents didn't do their job in making you see if for what it is. For that I'm sorry.

But I don't for one moment, believe the nonsense that these three "progressive" activists were simply hiking in a complete hellhole like Iraq or Iran. That being said, they're Americans, and although I think this country is better off without their presence, perhaps they'll come home a little wiser and much less idealistic.

Psst, the Iranians don't like you, hence your almost yearlong incarceration in an Iranian prison. Sucks when your little heroes imprison you, hmm?
